For their part, the Soviet government was profoundly grateful to the Churchills for personally spearheading such charitable efforts. The stunning success of the Aid to Russia Fund, owing to the generosity of the British public, was a major coup for British diplomacy and was useful for difficult moments in Anglo-Soviet relations, especially at times when Britain struggled to maintain a steady supply of war materials to the USSR. From this, £4 million worth of medical supplies, including 11,600 tons of medical aid and clothing, 2,000 tons of powdered medicines and 22,000 units of medical equipment, were purchased and shipped to the USSR 2. Large donations were raised through one-off submissions from generous benefactors, including Lord Nuffield’s £50,000 cheque, but there were also the offerings of thousands of community groups and organisations which undertook a variety of fundraising efforts.Īll over the nation, groups and associations came together to organise an assortment of fundraising activities, including town flag days and festivals, school pageants, sports tournaments and music recitals knitting and baking groups gave proceeds from the sale of their goods, while collections would be held by factory workers, hospital matrons and even soldiers.īy the close of the war, the people of Britain and the Empire donated more than £7 million to the fund. Within a year and a half of its establishment, the Aid to Russia Fund raised £3 million 1.įrom across Britain, the Commonwealth and the Empire, donations were received from people of all levels of society, from the King and Queen, who donated £1,000 in the first week of the scheme, to ordinary wage earners who committed to a penny-a-week subscription. Churchill’s fund’ that provided the most tangible evidence of the good will of the British people towards the people of the Soviet Union. However, it was the fundraising activities of ‘Mrs. Throughout the course of what the Soviet peoples would call ‘the Great Patriotic War’, this scheme provided the citizens of war-torn and besieged Soviet cities, such as Stalingrad and Leningrad, with supplies of clothing and medical aid. In October 1941, three months after the invasion of the Soviet Union, she was appointed by the British Red Cross to head their Aid to Russia Fund. These communications concerned the visit of Mrs Churchill to the USSR, from 2 April to, in her capacity as Chairwoman of the British Red Cross ‘Aid to Russia Fund’, an initiative upon which she had laboured for much of the duration of the wartime alliance.Ĭlementine Churchill volunteered for the British Red Cross Society at the beginning of the war, and became one of the organisation’s most active and high-profile serving members. The Foreign Office FO 594 series contains a number of documents, including personal minutes and items of telegram correspondence, that were exchanged by Churchill, the Foreign Secretary, Anthony Eden, and Britain’s Ambassador to the Soviet Union, Sir Archibald Clark-Kerr. So what brought Churchill’s wife to Moscow? Moreover, her visit was an astounding success, and had come at a moment when Anglo-Soviet relations had reached a nadir. She was in Moscow at the close of a twice-extended whirlwind tour of the Soviet Union. Many would be surprised to hear that ‘Clemmie’ was not actually in London on, while her husband was leading the nation in its celebration of Allied victory in the Second World War. Image courtesy of the British Embassy in Moscow, Clementine Churchill arriving at Leningrad Railway Station on the morning of 10 April 1945. Seventy-five years on, as we reflect on images of Britain’s Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, addressing a joyous thronging crowd at Whitehall, and standing before the jubilant masses with the Royal Family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, it is curious that few ever enquired as to the whereabouts of Clementine Churchill, his devoted wife who supported him during five years of wartime leadership.

This page was designed to assist you with determining a base price on our homes, depending on what size it is. There is a common misconception in the Tiny House Movement that “Tiny homes are cheaper to build per square foot than larger homes”, but unfortunately just the opposite is the case. Tiny and small homes actually cost more per square foot to build than larger homes do because of the law of average.Įxample: Our Plan 336 has a front door that will cost about $1100 to purchase and install it, so does our Plan 1659. The $1100 front door will cost $2.92 per foot installed in Plan 377 ($1100 divided by 377 ft = $2.92), but the price is only 0.66 cents a foot with Plan 1659 ($1100 divided by 1659 feet = 0.66 cents). The same principle applies with many of the line items in the total cost such the front door handle/dead bolt set, the front porch light, the hot water heater, the kitchen sink, the kitchen sink disposal, the ceiling fan in the family room, etc etc. The good news is the total cost to build Plan 336 is much less than the total cost to build Plan 1659. Texas Tiny Homes receives daily calls and emails from good folks all across America and Canada wanting to know what it will cost for us to build one of our plans on their land. Because we are a true custom home builder, it’s next to impossible for Texas Tiny Homes to provide you with a reasonable price without your detailed input on every item of the home. We are only able to provide a ball park estimates for free, as per the formulas below. A detailed specification of your wants and needs and wish lists takes weeks to compile, so unless you are willing to pay for that time we are not able to provide you with an exact price. If another builder provides you a firm price without first doing a specifications with you and then getting formal bids they are inexperienced or they are going to give you a small amount of selection options, that fall within their profit margin expectation. If that’s the case, they aren’t really a custom builder, they are more of a production builder.Įxample Of Specifications Necessity: What type of foundation will be used to construct your home? Will the foundation be constructed with wood piers and wood beams and a wood floor system? Will the foundation be constructed with concrete piers, and concrete beams and a wood floor system? Will the foundation be a concrete slab? Will the slab have concrete piers supporting it? If so, how deep will the piers need to be, based on a soils report and an engineer’s design and seal? Each of these options have different prices. The same amount of option variables apply with items like the insulation package, the windows, the roofing materials and the exterior facade. Will the exterior be all stone, all brick, all wood siding that is painted or stained, or will it be a combination of some of those items? The choice is yours to make, but each have different prices involved and it takes a lot of time and energy to determine an actual price. Instead of the McCallisters, we meet the Pruitt family and in particular the main character Alex. Home Alone 3 tells a whole different story then the original two. Home Alone 4 on the other hand.now THAT is BAD! It's a totally worthwhile and enjoyable sequel that has a bad rep for no reason. Despite these key differences of characters and theme, it still feels like it has enough continuity with the others. John Williams' theme only gets a brief recital at the start, but from then on it's an adequate (if not exceptional) score from Hans Zimmer pal Nick Glennie-Smith. Set in January, it lacks the Xmas feel of the first two, but I guess that would have just been a distraction. Yes, that is basically the whole plot but it gets enough mileage out of it and it's still very funny. They really ought to hire better criminals as they fall for every one of Alex's sadistic booby-traps. It turns out that a toy car Alex got from the old-lady across the street is actually a Trojan horse to smuggle a priceless defence microchip to the North Korean mob. Of course, no one believes an imaginative 8-year-old so he has to deal with them himself. Stuck at home with Chicken Pox with both his parents tied-up in work matters, Alex suspects foul play on his snowy street when he witnesses strangers poking around in his neighbor's house. This time around we have 8-year-old Alex Pruitt defend his house against international criminals. Of course it was a better idea to do in a different direction and with John Hughes still producing and writing you know there's going to be a good amount of imagination and creativity. I mean, how many of you would really have wanted a 16-year-old Mac Culkin doing the same-old same-old to Harry and Marv. Home Alone 3 has a lot of unfair criticism. It is worth mentioning, though, so if your workflow requires a really quiet room, be aware that you will hear the fan unless you bury it in a shelf somewhere. For my uses inside a rack case with a ton of other components that make some noise, it’s completely inaudible. The fan is definitely needed as under load, the drives get a bit toasty, but not alarmingly hot, and the fan remains quiet enough that you’ll only really notice it in the quietest of rooms. The 60mm fan is configured as exhaust and the front intake grill has a non-removable filter to keep dust and debris out. While cool, it’s kind of a weird choice, since the only reason to open the device is to install or remove drives, which requires a screwdriver. To get into the device, there are two captive thumbscrews to slide the internal components out of the shell. Also worth mentioning that OWC includes a certified ~2ft Thunderbolt 3 cable in the box, which is immensely appreciated. The only source of light in this box is an internal LED that you can barely see, but lets you know it’s on and functioning. Its basic design is forgettable, but that’s sort of the point it’s function over form without being offensive. Its longest dimension is just 5.4 inches and can easily fit on a rack shelf or backpack for easy transport. The OWC Express 4M2 is a really compact external enclosure, built out of extruded aluminum and anodized in black. Let’s take a look at the specification sheet for the OWC Express 4M2, which doesn’t come with drives: Number of BaysĠ, 1, 4, 5, 6, 10, JBOD via Software (SoftRAID XT)Ģx Thunderbolt 3 (40Gb/s), DisplayPort 1.2Ĥ.4in x 5.4in x 2.4in (11.3cm x 13.6cm x 6cm)ĥC to 35C (41F to 95F), -304.8m to 3,048m (-1,000ft to 10,000ft) The 5-year warranty is also a nice-to-have for something I use professionally. Even in this PCIe Gen3 configuration and limited by Thunderbolt 3’s 40Gb/s interface, they’re still great options for their sustained performance and better-than-average write endurance of 3600TBW, with a claimed 1.7 million hours mean time between failures. These drives are definitely overkill for this setup, as they’re PCIe Gen4 and can do up to 5GB/s read and 4.4GB/s write each, but they’re what I had on hand. In this review, I’ll be looking at this device and how it fits into my workflow as a Digital Imaging Technician in the motion picture industry.įor this review, I have the Express 4M2 configured with four 2TB Sabrent Rocket NVMe 4.0 drives in RAID0. Configurable in a variety of RAID options via OWC’s SoftRAID XT software (which is included as a $100 add-on), this external enclosure packs some serious performance in a small package. The OWC Express 4M2 is a Thunderbolt 3 external enclosure for up to four NVMe M.2 drives. Cortical preparatory activity: representation of movement or first cog in a dynamical machine? Neuron 68, 387–400 (2010) Anticipatory activity of motor cortex neurons in relation to direction of an intended movement. Our results show that the thalamus is a circuit hub in motor preparation and suggest that persistent activity requires reciprocal excitation across multiple brain areas. Similarly, photoinhibition of the ALM diminished thalamic activity. Photoinhibition of the thalamus caused a short-latency and near-complete collapse of ALM activity. Unilateral photoinhibition of delay activity in the ALM or thalamus produced contralesional neglect. Here we show that, similar to ALM neurons, thalamic neurons exhibited selective persistent delay activity that predicted movement direction. We recorded spikes from the ALM and thalamus during tactile discrimination with a delayed directional response. The ALM is connected bidirectionally with parts of the thalamus, including the ventral medial and ventral anterior–lateral nuclei. Neurons in the mouse anterior lateral motor cortex (ALM) have been shown to have selective persistent activity that instructs future actions. Models of persistent activity often invoke reverberations within local cortical circuits, but long-range circuits could also contribute. Persistent neural activity maintains information that connects past and future events. Besides a show, they also offer a flea market. This is the system of grading used in many high schools (Grades 10–12) in BC. A failing grade will also result in not earning credits for an Alberta High School Diploma or any subject taken in post-secondary and typically means the student will more than likely repeat the course. A grade of P translates into 50% when used to calculate averages for university or college admission.Ī mark of 0–49%, is a D and under, is a failure for a class and is typically given for high school and post-secondary students only, but can be given to junior high students too, but isn't typically done. P: Pass: indicates that the student has achieved the bare minimum grade to pass the class granted by a teacher due to reasons beyond the student's control. WDR: Withdrawal: indicted the student has withdrawn from a particular course and thus, is given no grade because of it.ĪMP: Academic Malpractice: Indicates that the student was placed in an incorrect class, whether it be by not having the pre-requisite or did not request the class upon registration. IEA: Insufficient Evidence Available: indicates that the teacher of a particular course has not gathered enough evidence of a student's learning and thus cannot give a grade for said student. Level #1: 50–59% (student has demonstrated a very poor performance related to learning outcomes) Level #2: 60–69% (student has demonstrated an adequate performance related to learning outcomes) Level #3: 70–79% (student has demonstrated a proficient performance related to learning outcomes) Level #4: 80–100% (student has demonstrated exemplary performance related to learning outcomes) Note: not all schools utilize a +/− system when giving grades. In francophone schools, from kindergarten to grade 9 an alternative grading system is used instead of percentages and letter grades: numbers 1 through 4 are used (4 is excellent, 3 is good, 2 is average, and 1 is below average. In Alberta, academic grading follows a scale of letter grades (A through D), sentences to describe how well one's performance is to the curricular tasks expected of them, and percentages which are typically reserved for high only percentages are used. The person who invited me told me to come at 6 for the dinner and stay afterwards because an Amish family was going to sing for everyone after dinner. A few years ago I attended a benefit dinner at a Beachy Amish/Amish Mennonite church fellowship hall. I quietly left and they resumed their singing practice.
